So this is not the most powerful stubby impact wrench you can buy, It is not the quietest stubby impact wrench. But, it is the smallest stubby impact wrench you can buy in its category. With that said, it’s not the smallest buy A huge margin, but any experienced auto technician or anyone that works on anything where space is limited will tell you “every little bit helps”. Sometimes A 1/4″ of clearance make the difference in that job taking 1 hour to complete or 3 hours. This is why I chose to purchase the Astro Pneumatic 1828 ONYX 3/8″ Nano Impact Wrench over the competitors.

Quality: The nano appears to be built with durability in mind. It’s a simple design (externally), nothing fancy, built the way impact wrenches have been built for years. No surprises there. I highly doubt you will every run into any issues with buttons breaking or directional levers falling off. However, The grip is made of a rubbery type material and in my experience with similar types of grips in the past, it may not fair to well with prolonged exposure to chemicals (oils, grease, brake cleaner, etc). What usually happens over time is that the material tends to swell and eventually comes loose. Only time will tell, so best bet would be to avoid having the Astro nano’s grip soaking in chemicals. Overall I would say that quality is a PASS.

Durability: I was told by an Astro Pneumatic rep over at the Garagejournal forums that the Gun is made for daily professional use and will take a beating. The rep also said that it’s not meant to replace your full size 1/2″ impact gun If you’re doing nothing but tires all day long. So if you think this Gun is what you want to use at a tire shop think again. I was told that it is best suited for suspension work, brakes, engine work, etc. Honestly it would be a little unrealistic to expect this Gun to last long with it constantly hammering wheels on and off all day long. My experience with the Astro nano 3/8″ gun so far has been good. But i have only had it for about a week.

The Verdict: I like this gun a lot i often find myself just looking for ways to use it more (I think i have a problem) often. The price is perfect at $106.45 and is kind of impulse buy because it’s priced so well. Believe me when I say you will find a lot of different ways to use this little powerhouse. Just buy it and see for yourself that’s my Verdict.
